Directions
- Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the vegetable oil (or cachaça), vinegar, and warm water. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

- Step 2: Prepare the Fillings
- Ground Beef Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant.

- Mix the chopped heart of palm with cream cheese, salt, and black pepper.
- Step 3: Assemble the Pastéis

- Fold the dough over the filling, pressing the edges to seal.
- Use a fork to crimp the edges for a tight seal.
- Step 4: Fry the Pastéis
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop 1-2 pastéis at a time into the hot oil.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve & Enjoy!
- Serve hot and crispy, with a side of hot sauce or chimichurri for dipping.
- Best paired with a cold guaraná soda or fresh lime juice.
